Portfolio

Here you will find several other components that I have created for my Art, Media, and Technology course I completed for my Master's of Arts in Teaching program. These components consist of a Media Literacy essay, a Flipped Classroom project, and the creation of this website as my final project. Enjoy!

Media Literacy.

For this assignment, we were to write about the nature and influence of media literacy within our professional activities. I focused on how we, as educators, might influence our students within the classroom to question and properly utilize the internet and other media resources in today's world. I utilized the resource Weaponized Lies: How to Think Critically in the Post-Truth Era by Daniel J. Levitin.

Flipped Classroom.

Throughout my teaching program as well as within the school district I work, we utilize the concept of Understanding by Design, which is curriculum, instruction, and assessment using backwards design. In Jason McTighe and Grant Wiggins UbD books, they describe UbD as: The Understanding by Design® framework (UbD™ framework) offers a planning process and structure to guide curriculum, assessment, and instruction. Its two key ideas are contained in the title: 1) focus on teaching and assessing for understanding and learning transfer, and 2) design curriculum “backward” from those ends. To extend that even further, I have created a Flipped Classroom video to supplement one of my lessons with my UbD unit base on Colonial History: Missions and Schools. A Flipped Classroom is essentially that; it allows students to take the "lecture" home with them so that you can have more in-class time for homework, discussions, and breaking down the information in deeper context.

Here you will find resources for homework that I have provided for Day 2 of my UbD unit - Colonial History: Missions and Schools. The homework assigned is a final paper that I wrote in my undergraduate program in which I have students focus mainly on the section where it discusses missionaries and boarding schools.

In addition to this reading, you will find a supplemental video, which is essentially my Flipped Classroom video, that helps students focus on this section of the reading.

ePortfolio.

As a final project, I have created this ePortfolio for the use as an educator. I anticipated utilizing it for a variety of reasons including providing information about me, informing parents of my students of what they're working on within the classroom, showcasing student work, as well as a platform for students to access materials for assignments, readings, projects, etc., to name the least. If you click on the link below, you can see a more detailed description of the importance of this ePortfolio. Quyanaqpak!
